The Telangana Cabinet meeting scheduled for Saturday (May 23) is expected to clear several major programmes and policy initiatives that the State government plans to formally announce during the State Formation Day celebrations on June 2.
The meeting assumes significance as the ruling dispensation intensifies efforts to consolidate its position ahead of the next elections. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will chair the meeting which is likely to focus on welfare schemes, infrastructure expansion, fiscal management and administrative reforms.
The meeting will likely reflect concerns over the evolving West Asia crisis and its possible impact on Telangana’s economy and revenue generation. Ministers are expected to deliberate on the need for austerity measures in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fiscal prudence amid global uncertainties.
Among the key agenda items is the second phase of the government’s flagship Indiramma Houses programme to be launched from June 2. The government is betting on this scheme to create a positive atmosphere in the rural areas.
The Cabinet is also likely to deliberate on paddy procurement-related issues that have recently emerged as a major point of criticism from Opposition parties. Concerns over delays and operational hurdles in procurement are expected to be reviewed in detail during the meeting.
The Private Schools Fee Regulating and Monitoring Commission is also expected to come up for discussion, which aims to bring transparency and accountability in the fee structures of private educational institutions. The Cabinet will also review the proposed expansion of the Metro Rail network, with the Centre appearing to be keen to assist, while the progress in talks with Maharashtra regarding the Tummidihatti project will also be on the agenda.
Ahead of the Cabinet meeting Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Ministers are scheduled to be in the temple town of Yadagirigutta on Saturday morning to inaugurate a Vedic School.
