Even as a strong wave favoured the United Democratic Front (UDF) across the State, the Congress failed to translate that momentum into gains in Thrissur district, managing to win only three of the 10 seats it contested. The defeat of senior Congress leader and AICC secretary T. N. Prathapan in Manalur came as a major blow. The party also suffered narrow losses in key constituencies such as Guruvayur and Puthukkad, underlining how crucial vote mobilisation lapses can be.
Of the 13 constituencies, the Congress contested 10, while the IUML contested two and Kerala Congress (Jacob) one. The IUML narrowly lost Guruvayur and suffered a heavy defeat in Chelakkara, while Kerala Congress managed to wrest Irinjalakuda from the CPI(M).
