The Mysuru and Chamarajanagar District Congress Committees have adopted a resolution recommending the nomination of Mysuru Rural District Congress Committee president B.J. Vijay Kumar to the Legislative Council.
A resolution was adopted at a meeting held here on Saturday evening in the presence of legislators and former legislators from both the districts.
Sharing this information, Mysuru City Congress Committee president R. Murthy said the recommendation was made in the light of a couple of seats falling vacant in the Legislative Council in the coming months.
MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, who was also present on the occasion, said Mr. Kumar had served the party efficiently for the last 25 years. He recalled Mr. Kumar’s guidance and support to him and his family when he entered politics in 2016.
Neither the Congress party nor any of the legislators could ignore Mr. Kumar’s hard work in every election and by-election in the district, Mr. Yathindra said. He further said that Mr. Kumar had carried out every responsibility assigned by the party in a disciplined manner and had handled them successfully without any major lapses.
He also pointed out that Mr. Kumar had already been denied opportunities to contest the Lok Sabha or Legislative Assembly elections earlier.
MLA and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president Tanveer Sait too expressed confidence that the Congress party would recognise Mr. Kumar’s services by offering him a seat either in the Legislative Council or Rajya Sabha.
MLA for K.R. Nagar D. Ravishankar and MLA for H.D. Kote Anil Chikkamadu too acknowledged the hard and honest work by Mr. Kumar to the party.
The meeting chaired by Mr. Murthy was attended by MLAs Puttarangashetty, A.R. Krishnamurthy, Darshan Dhruvanarayana, and Harish Gowda besides former legislators Maritibbe Gowda, G.N. Nanjundaswamy, M.K. Somashekar, Kalale Keshavamurthy, Sunita Veerappa Gowda, Bannur M. Krishnappa, and N. Dharma Sena among others.
