In a joint operation, the Task Force and Narsampet police have arrested eight persons on charges of printing and circulating counterfeit currency and cheating people with promises of high returns.
Presenting them before the media at the police commissionerate on Monday, DCP (East Zone) Ankit Kumar said three of the accused were involved in printing fake notes in ₹100 face value using laptops and printers and passing them off as genuine in the market. The remaining five allegedly cheated people by claiming they could convert smaller amounts of money into larger sums in a 1:3 ratio and supplied black paper bundles disguised as currency. Police seized fake currency notes, ₹1.48 lakh in genuine cash, laptops and printers, 13 mobile phones and two cars from the accused.
