A total of 100 candidates - 63 women and 37 women - filed their nominations on the final day on Monday for contesting in eight Assembly segments in Tiruppur district.
So far, 193 candidates - 133 males and 60 females - have filed nominations in the eight constituencies.
In Dharapuram and Avinashi SC constituencies, there were 17 and 26 candidates respectively.
Union Minister L. Murugan filed his nomination for contesting in Avinashi constituency. State Minister M.P. Saminathan filed his nomination for Kangayam constituency for which there are 19 other candidates.
Women candidates outnumbered men in Udumalpet (16 female and five male), Dharapuram (11 and six male), and Avinashi (14 male and 12 female). However, the number of women was much lesser than men in the rest of the constituencies.

The least was in Kangayam constituency where nomination was filed by only one female candidate. There were three female candidates and 14 male candidates in Madathukulam, four female candidates and 27 male candidates in Palladam, seven females and 27 males in Tiruppur South, and four females and 24 males in Tiruppur North.
Mr. Murugan exuded confidence after filing his nominations that he will emerge victorious with a margin exceeding 75,000 votes.
Independent candidates waiting to file their nominations for Tiruppur South constituency on the premises of Tiruppur Corporation Office, complained of restrictions imposed by the police.
The Independent candidates, several among them belonging to Mudhalipalayam village, had assembled to file their nominations to convey their disappointment with DMK candidate N. Dinesh Kumar, hitherto Mayor of the Corporation, over his handling of solid waste management
Commotion prevailed for a while even as BJP candidate Thangaraj expressed solidarity with them.
Tiruppur South MLA K. Selvaraj, who is the candidate this time for the Palladam segment, said after filing nominations that he was confident of victory as a candidate of the DMK-led alliance.
