The annual Chithirai car festival of Sri Sarangapaniswamy temple, Kumbakonam, was held on Thursday (April 30).
A large number of devotees gathered in Kumbakonam to pull the gigantic wooden car, fitted with iron wheels and an hydraulic brake system, along major thoroughfares of the town before reaching the deck again after a few hours.
