The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will run 24 additional train trips using six extra trains every Monday from May 18, 2026, to cater to increased passenger demand.
The move follows Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s call earlier this week, urging Delhi government officials to observe ‘Metro Mondays’ and use public transport to conserve fuel.
According to the DMRC, one additional train each will operate on the Red, Yellow, Blue, and Pink Lines, while two additional trains will run on the Violet Line. Together, these will undertake 24 extra trips across the network every Monday, depending on passenger footfall.
“This is part of a series of strategic initiatives to promote greater adoption of metro services while enhancing commuter convenience, safety and accessibility,” a senior DMRC official said.
The corporation will monitor passenger demand throughout the day and respond accordingly by running additional trips or deploying staff where required. It will also deploy extra security personnel, open more ticketing counters, and activate spare door frame metal detectors and baggage scanners to reduce waiting time and ensure smoother movement during peak hours.
Additional staff may be deployed at interchange stations and points connecting with other modes of transport, including bus terminals and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). The DMRC also said it would closely monitor last-mile connectivity.
Hydrogen-based bus services were launched from the Central Secretariat on May 15 to improve connectivity to nearby offices. The Delhi Transport Corporation currently operates around 1,500 ‘Devi’ buses, providing last-mile connectivity at 52 metro stations. Parking facilities are available at 126 stations.
Passengers have been urged to download the ‘Metro Sarthi’ application for a smoother travel experience. Digital ticketing options, including QR code tickets, the National Common Mobility Card, and integrations with platforms such as WhatsApp, Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon, IRCTC and the Open Network for Digital Commerce, are already in place and may be expanded further if needed.
