The city police have installed flexible traffic bollards on the road over bridge near Railway Junction, close on the heels of making a similar arrangement on the Cauvery bridge, to regulate traffic.

The bridge connects Central Bus Stand with Tiruchi-Chennai Bypass and Madurai Road and Tiruchi-Dindigul National Highways.

The move comes in the wake of over speeding and rash driving on the bridge. The installation of the brightly coloured bollards is expected to check rash driving and ensure orderly traffic movement. “The installation of the bollards will help in ensuring orderly traffic without much hassle on the bridge,” said N. Saravanan, a commuter.

While conceding that the bollards would help check rash driving, C. Balasubramanian, a civic activist, however, pointed out that they had constricted the space on the narrow bridge. “But there seems to be no other way to check rash driving, until the second stage of the road over bridge [currently under construction] is completed,” he added.
