Students from a private law college near Padanthalumoodu in Kanniyakumari district submitted a petition at Kanniyakumari Collectorate alleging that nearly 60 students were unable to appear for their semester examination as the university declined to approve their admissions.
The students demanded appropriate action against the college administration.
The petition was submitted at the weekly grievance redressal meeting chaired by Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena.
In the petition, students stated that they had enrolled in the LLB course during the 2025-2026 academic year and had been regularly attending classes and other academic activities conducted by the college.
The petition alleged that although Dr. Ambedkar Law University had sanctioned only 60 seats for the course, the college administration admitted 120 students.
The portion added that the college administration even assured that all students would be permitted to write the semester examination. Believing this assurance, the students said the college administration obtained signatures from the students and filed a case against the university.
However, in the end only 60 students were allowed to write their examination.
Initially, when the case was heard, the students were allowed to write the examination. However the university later appealed and obtained a restraining order, stating the college did not follow rules and regulations, the petition claimed.
The students urged the district administration to conduct an investigation into the incident and take appropriate action against the college administration.
They also requested the authorities to take necessary steps to safeguard the academic future of affected students, considering the welfare of both parents and students.
