A 30-year-old construction worker ended his life, allegedly following custodial torture over a theft complaint, near Velankanni in Nagapattinam district. The victim’s family has sought action against the police personnel involved.
Karthikeyan, 30, son of Kanagasundaram from Chinnathumboor near Velankanni, had gone to Edaiyur Sangenthi near Thiruthuraipoondi to attend a relative’s function. During the event, a relative reportedly complained that three sovereigns of gold jewellery had gone missing, and a complaint was lodged against him at the Edaiyur Sangenthi police station in Tiruvarur district.
