Doctors of the Kalaignar Centenary Super Specialty Hospital (KCSSH) reconstructed a large chest wall defect in a 59-year-old man diagnosed with chondrosarcoma — a rare malignant bone tumour — using a custom-designed, 3D-printed titanium implant.
The patient had undergone extensive chest wall resection, including the removal of the involved sternum, ribs and surrounding soft tissues. The patient was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma of the sternum and underwent surgery at the Department of Surgical Oncology, KCSSH, on April 20. He was in stage two of the disease.
