Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has alleged that the Congress government in Telangana has failed to implement the 34 promises made at the Warangal Farmers’ Declaration over the past two-and-a-half-years and warned that the party would intensify protests across the State to mount pressure on the government. He also launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of betraying farmers.
Addressing a large gathering of party activists and farmers at the ‘Rythu Sangrama Sadassu’ here on Wednesday (May 6, 2026), Mr. Rao alleged that the government had “turned its back on farmers.”
He also criticised the Congress top leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, for their alleged failure to implement the promises made to farmers. He questioned the delay in procurement of paddy and other crops and support measures, stating that farmers were being left stranded at procurement centres for weeks.
Drawing a contrast with the previous BRS regime led by K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), he said farm produce was procured even during the COVID-19 period, while the present government had “abandoned farmers in distress.”
Four resolutions
The meeting passed four key resolutions, including a demand for financial assistance to the families of farmers who died over the past two-and-a-half years, immediate implementation of all promises under the Warangal Farmers’ Declaration announced by Rahul Gandhi before the general elections [in 2023], unconditional procurement of all crops, a ₹500 bonus per quintal of paddy, and clearance of pending Rythu Bharosa payments along with a full loan waiver up to ₹2 lakh. The revival of the Rythu Bima insurance scheme was also sought.
Alleging that the Congress had deceived farmers with “tall promises,” Mr.Rao termed the declaration a “bogus document” and warned that the Chief Minister and Ministers would face public resistance if commitments were not honoured.
BRS MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, Deputy Chairman in the Legislative Council, Banda Prakash, MLCs S. Madhusudhana Chary, Takkallapally Ravinder Rao, Pochampally Srinivas Reddy, MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and others attended the meeting.
