Minister for Energy Resources and Law R. Nirmalkumar conferred degrees to the medical students during the 67th convocation ceremony at Madurai Medical College on Sunday.

Mr. Nirmalkumar addressing the gathering said, “Lakhs of students dream of joining Madurai Medical College. The experience gained in this college cannot be obtained anywhere else.”

“After studying medicine, many hesitate to immediately start practicing. They say they are not ready yet. Today’s medical graduates face the pressure of having to immediately pursue post-graduation,” he observed.

Since doctors currently hesitate to start independent clinics, the medical field has become corporate, he remarked.

Private multi-specialty hospitals have multiplied. Not everyone is going to seek treatment at private hospitals. The need for medical care in villages is increasing day by day. Starting practice without losing self-confidence is what is important, he stated.

Degrees were conferred upon 250 graduating medical students, who subsequently took the Hippocratic Oath, reaffirming their commitment to ethical medical practice and compassionate patient care.

Madurai North MLA A. Kallanai, Madurai South MLA M.M. Gopison, L. Arulsundaresh Kumar, Dean, Madurai Medical College & Government Rajaji Hospital, K. Senthil, Former Professor and Head, Department of General Medicine, among others were present during the event.
