Reiterating the TVK government’s opposition to NEET, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare K.G. Arunraj said in Coimbatore that the dispensation has pressed for bringing medical education into State List as a permanent solution.

Expressing deep regret over the death of two students who were to appear for NEET retest, Dr. Arunraj, who was in Coimbatore to take part in the convocation at ESI Government Medical College and Coimbatore Medical College, told mediapersons that the government’s stand was articulated in the Governor’s address in the Assembly and that candidates should not end their lives.

The distress caused to students by NEET has to be acknowledged, especially due to the cancelation and re-exam, the Minister said, urging stressed students to seek assistance from the 104 Helpline. Guidance was being provided through the helpline to students and parents as well, he said, assuring that legal options would also be explored.

The Government was looking at the possibility for establishing a unit of AIIMS in Coimbatore. The district administration was in the process of identifying the right location, the Minister said.
