Chennai city police arrested a 32-year-old man from Salem district for allegedly issuing a hoax bomb threat to the State Modern Police Control Room in Egmore.
According to the police, an unidentified caller contacted the Control Room on Sunday and claimed that a bomb had been planted at the Egmore Integrated Police Control Room. The caller disconnected the call immediately after making the threat.
Following the alert, a police team from Egmore Police Station, along with personnel from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the police dog squad, conducted an extensive search of the premises. After a thorough inspection, officials confirmed that no explosive device was found and that the threat was false.
Based on the complaint, the Egmore police registered a case and launched an investigation. With the phone number from which the threat call was made, investigators traced the suspect to Mettur in Salem district.
The accused, identified as Seenu, 32, was detained in Salem and brought to Chennai for questioning before being formally arrested. The police also seized the mobile phone allegedly used to make the threat call.
