The Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department Employees’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) has said that it will announce the second phase of its agitation programme at a State-level meeting in Vijayawada on June 28, 2026.

The decision comes in response to the State government’s reported plans to gradually privatise the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) by introducing privately operated electric buses and handing over valuable RTC depots and other assets to private operators.

In a statement on Friday, the JAC State conveners Y. Srinivasa Rao and Palisetti Damodara Rao urged the government to withdraw what they described as its privatisation agenda and instead address the legitimate demands and long-pending issues of PTD (RTC) employees.

They claimed an overwhelming response to the protests organised by the JAC recently in the first phase. “However, the government has so far failed to provide any concrete assurance, forcing the JAC to hold a comprehensive discussion on the future course of the agitation and take key decisions,” they said.

They said leaders and representatives of the JAC from all regions of the State are expected to participate in the June 28 meeting, which will review employees’ grievances, assess the future of the corporation and deliberate on strategies for intensifying the movement.

The JAC’s State co-conveners said they would unite all employee and labour unions willing to join the movement.
