Malayali musician Aron Kollassani Selestin, popularly known as Aksomaniac, embodies a ‘formless’ celestial being, swaying among forms and faces, in his latest track titled ‘Amsham’. Doomed to love infinitely, the character Manmadhan is forever denied any such feelings in return, as he meanders through his vain eternal existence.

With verses in Malayalam and Tamil, ‘Amsham’ features indie artists MHR, Bhumi and Circle Tone. The track, which has gone viral, seamlessly transitions across genres such as R&B and hip-hop. The song was recently ranked third on the Spotify Viral 50 – Global with over eight million streams online. It is also the second Malayalam song to enter this list, after ‘Kalyani’ by ARJN x KDS x FIFTY4 x RONN.

“The response to ‘Amsham’ has been overwhelming, and honestly, quite unexpected. I didn’t anticipate a song like this finding this kind of resonance,” says Aron.

The artiste says the track began as a “light-hearted jab” at his partner. “The initial idea came together while I was working out of a cafe. That instrumental eventually became the one I shared with MHR, which evolved into the track you hear today,” he adds.

Previously, Aron has explored the idea of Manmadhan (Cupid), a deity of love, desire, and attraction, in his single ‘Kanmashi’, released in 2025. The artiste mentions mystical beings associated with sex and love, addressing themes such as self-exploration and self-love. “At the time, I understood Manmadhan as a symbol adjacent to love, but it was only later that I explored the origins of the character,” he says.

“During the making of ‘Amsham’, I continued researching figures like Gandharvan and came across Njan Gandharvan,” says the artiste, referring to the 1991 fantasy romance directed by legendary Malayalam filmmaker Padmarajan. “I was drawn to the playfulness and mystique of that character, which led me to develop a narrative adaptation as a foundation. From there, the music began to take shape around that world,” says Aron, whose last release was an EP titled ‘Varthamanam’.

The track features MHR, known for hits such as ‘Malabari Banger’ and ‘Munthirichar’. “MHR reached out to me on Instagram a day before I created the instrumental for the songs. We immediately connected over the idea of working together, and I sent him the track the following day. Within a week, he had a mock vocal ready, and we completed the song in about six weeks. Bhumi came in much later in the process. I reached out and walked her through the narrative and the nuances of the character. Interestingly, her mother was already familiar with the myth, which added another layer of depth to the conversation,” says Aron, who moved to Mumbai from Thiruvananthapuram last year, dropping out of college in the final year.

Aron began learning Carnatic vocals when he was six and has trained in instruments such as tabla and keyboard. He debuted in 2021 with ‘Mistakes’, a track about longing. His discography features over 27 tracks, including two EPs and one album. He also won the Indian Music Diaries 2025 EP of the Year award for ‘Explained Twice’.

When asked about his future, Aron, who is currently working on his next EP, says, “Right now, I am focused on staying grounded and continuing to build the next chapter in Manmadhan’s journey.”
