Hyderabad Police arrest seven persons in advocate’s murde...
The Hindu Bureau · 2026-05-29 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

Seven persons, including the alleged main conspirators, were arrested by Hyderabad Police in connection with the murder of advocate Khaja Moizuddin, who was allegedly run over deliberately by an SUV near his residence at Masab Tank on May 23. The murder was part of a planned contract killing linked to long-standing Waqf property dispute.

Police identified Mujahid Alam Khan as the main conspirator and alleged that he, along with his father Mahboob Alam Khan and associates Hassan Ali alias Chaous and Muneer, planned the murder in a systematic manner. The recce was being done since January, said Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, briefing the media on the arrests.

The officer said that the accused used a vehicle to intentionally hit the advocate at high speed, throwing him nearly 10 metres away and causing grievous injuries that later proved fatal.

“The accused allegedly received ₹15 lakh to execute the murder. Police seized the vehicle used in the offence, ₹10.10 lakh in cash and multiple mobile phones from the accused,” added the officer.

According to the police, the complaint was lodged by the victim’s son, M.S. Farhan, an advocate, who stated that his father had stepped out around 5.45 a.m. for swimming and was approaching his parked vehicle when an unidentified four-wheeler rammed into him with force before fleeing the scene. Moizuddin succumbed to injuries around noon.

Police said the murder stemmed from a dispute, reportedly since 2013, between the family of accused Mujahid Alam Khan and advocate Khaja Moizuddin over Waqf properties and management issues in Malakpet and Lakdikapul. Several civil, criminal and Waqf Tribunal cases were reportedly pending between both groups for years.

According to investigators, the accused believed the advocate’s involvement in legal proceedings against them had led to repeated legal setbacks and humiliation, leading to a conspiracy to eliminate him.

Investigators said the conspirators routed money through intermediaries to distance themselves from the execution of the crime. Police alleged that ₹2 lakh was initially provided for procurement of the Scorpio vehicle used in the offence.

“The investigation revealed that from January 2026 onwards, the accused conducted reconnaissance near the advocate’s residence and monitored his movements to identify an opportunity to execute the attack. Kishan alias Pappu was traced to Panipat in Haryana and arrested on May 27. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the conspiracy and disclosed the roles played by the others,” explained the commmissioner.

Based on technical evidence and his confession, police teams arrested Mujahid Alam Khan from Jubilee Hills and apprehended several other accused near MGBS, Gowliguda, on Friday, May 29.

Police said accused Abhijeeth alias Nani allegedly drove the SUV and rammed it into the advocate for monetary gain. Cash of ₹2.80 lakh and a mobile phone were seized from him.

Another accused, Dighan Vinay, allegedly arranged the driver, procured the vehicle and participated in planning and reconnaissance. Police seized the SUV, ₹4.50 lakh in cash and a mobile phone from him. He is also allegedly involved in multiple previous criminal cases.

Police also arrested Vikram Aditya alias Chintu, who allegedly linked the driver to the conspiracy, and Manideep alias Pogo Nani, who was allegedly present in the vehicle during the offence.

Further investigation is underway to apprehend the remaining absconding accused and collect additional technical and documentary evidence connected to the conspiracy.
