Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Shilpa Sharma on Wednesday appealed to voters, political parties and the general public to extend full cooperation to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of electoral rolls which is being taken up by the Election Commission of India to make voter lists more accurate, error-free and transparent.

Addressing a press conference at her office in Bidar, Ms. Sharma said that the revision exercise will include a house-to-house enumeration drive during which Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households to collect and verify voter details. The information gathered during the survey will be used for revision, correction and updating of electoral rolls.

She said that October 1, 2026 has been fixed as the qualifying date for the revision exercise. Preparatory work and training programmes will be conducted from June 20 to 29, while a house-to-house survey will be carried out from June 30 to July 29.

The draft electoral rolls will be published on August 5. Claims and objections can be submitted between August 5 and September 4. Disposal of claims and objections will be completed by October 3 and the final electoral rolls will be published on October 7, she said.

Ms. Sharma said that the survey will facilitate inclusion of newly eligible voters, updating of details of shifted voters, deletion of names of deceased voters and other necessary corrections in the electoral rolls. She urged citizens to provide the required documents and extend cooperation to BLOs during the verification process.

She said that after publication of the draft rolls, voters will have an opportunity to verify their names, addresses and other particulars and submit claims or objections within the stipulated period if any discrepancies were noticed. All applications will be examined and disposed of in accordance with the prescribed rules, she added.

Emphasising that electoral rolls revision is one of the most important processes in a democracy, the Deputy Commissioner called upon all stakeholders to participate actively in ensuring that the voter list remains complete, accurate and transparent.
