Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa on Monday urged all those in possession of different old manuscripts and other documents to join hands with the administration in preserving them through the Union government-sponsored Gyan Bharatam mission.
Chairing a meeting on the implementation of the mission at Rajatadri, district office complex in Manipal-Udupi, Ms. Swaroopa said digitisation work is under way to permanently preserve old manuscripts and other documents in the country.
She said a survey is being conducted to collect old handwritten texts, manuscripts and documents across the country and to preserve them through today’s technology. People can directly upload documents through the Gyan Bharatam app or surveyors will come to them if the information is provided, the DC said.
Ms. Swaroopa noted the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka will be made available to the public through a single national platform. She appealed to universities, museums, organisations, monasteries and individuals to document manuscripts.
On the occasion, a promotional poster for the mission was released.
