Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore, a consumer-rights organisation, has submitted a set of suggestions to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on administrative reforms, public grievances redress systems and policy matters.

In the representation, the organisation welcomed the Chief Minister’s recent policy announcements, including the provision of 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers, stating that it would benefit middle-income and economically weak households.

The key suggestions include reintroduction of a structured public grievances redress system akin to that existed in the Kamaraj-era, wherein government departments dedicated Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to hearing public grievances.

It further proposed weekly inter-departmental grievances review meetings under government monitoring to address pending issues. In the alcohol policy sector, the organisation suggested a gradual shift from Tasmac retail outlets to regulated traditional toddy production, citing livelihood support for palm farmers and public health concerns.

The representation also sought a shift from bi-monthly to monthly electricity billing to help households manage expenses in a more structured manner.

It further urged the government to ensure mandatory display of Citizens’ Charter and Right to Service information in all government offices, including details of services, responsible officials, required documents and time limits for service delivery, to improve transparency and reduce delays.
