Calling upon students to choose early in their life a career in the field they are passionate in, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said success is guaranteed if they work continuously in the chosen career path.

Inaugurating The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling fair 2026 in Mangaluru on Saturday, Mr. Reddy said with early identification, a person can save about two years of learning. “Decide the field you love. Continue to work it. Only then you will achieve success in life and you will be a person who will be remembered in the society,” Mr. Reddy told students.

Speaking about himself, Mr. Reddy said his father wanted him to become doctor. He finished the II PU course, did engineering, and got employed in a private company. “Deep inside I aspired to become a police officer.” He and his friend started preparing for Union Civil Services Examination. “I failed once and succeeded in the second attempt,” he said. After a tough IPS officers training, he got posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Bhatkal Sub Division in Uttara Kannada.

Mr. Reddy advised students to continue gaining knowledge throughout their life. Along with gaining knowledge, students should build their character, namely living in solidarity with people from different communities and having compassionate feelings for societal problems.  “This will make you a good citizen and helps nation grow as a super power”. He wished students success in their career path.

Earlier Mr. Reddy released The Hindu EducationPlus ‘Career Handbook’. There were presentations by subject experts on career prospects in the fields namely medicine, engineering, chartered accountancy and UPSC. There was also talk on CET counselling for allotment of seats in medical, engineering and other professional courses.

This was the 24th edition of The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling Fair. Representatives of different educational institutions set up their stalls to make students aware of courses they offer. There was also stall of The Hindu where books and publications of The Hindu were displayed. Students from different pre-university colleges of Mangaluru took part in the programme.
