Farmers blocked four YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders from entering Undavalli, Penumaka and other villages in the capital region of Amaravati on Saturday (June 27, 2026), leading to a confrontation.
Former YSRC Ministers Perni Venkataramaiah and Ambati Rambabu, MLC Lella Appi Reddy and party leader Devineni Avinash had gone to the villages under the banner of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Rythu Parirakshana Committee, to highlight what they alleged was an injustice to farmers who had given land for the greenfield capital.

The farmers took strong objection to the YSRCP leaders’ claim to fight on their behalf, and insisted they had no right to visit Amaravati, accusing them of creating unrest for political gain.
The farmers also said Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s new proposal to develop the ‘Mavigun’ (Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur) region as the capital of Andhra Pradesh reflected his reluctance to accept Amaravati as the capital, and that the YSRCP leaders therefore had no moral ground to visit the capital region.
Heated arguments ensued between the YSRCP leaders and Amaravati farmers. As tempers rose, both sides came to blows, and the police tried to pacify Mr. Venkataramaiah and others when stones were thrown, in which a constable was reportedly injured.
The YSRCP leaders eventually left, as the Amaravati farmers refused to let them inspect the land under development or speak to the “aggrieved farmers”.
Addressing media persons later, Mr. Venkataramaiah claimed the CRDA Rythu Parirakshana Committee had been invited by some farmers in Penumaka to look into their problems.
He said a section of the farmers had earlier complained to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy that the promises made to the beneficiaries of the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) were not fulfilled, and that, as a result, they were facing problems related to their land.
He said the government did not want the YSRCP to expose the problems faced by farmers, and hence prevented the leaders from obtaining a first-hand account of the issues purportedly flagged by them.
