A 220 kW rooftop solar power plant has been installed on the PMIST premises, Vallam, near Thanjavur.
According to a PMIST release, the SPP with a generation capacity of 1,000 to 1,100 units of electricity a day to begin with, has been installed with the support of IMV Photovoltaic Power Ltd. and was formally inaugurated by the PMIST Chancellor K. Veeramani on June 26.
The new power general facility is expected to reduce electricity expenditure of the university by nearly 33% as the institution’s electricity consumption hover around 3,000 units a day. Once the facility achieves its full capacity of 2,000 units a day, the dependence on external power supply would significantly be reduced, the release added.
