Rich imagination and perspectives in terracotta sculptures
The Hindu Bureau · 2026-06-16 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

Art naturally blossoms not just from isolated imagination, but from the fertile ground of shared human experiences. ‘Aura’ terracotta art exhibition serves as a profound testament to this collective spirit, gathering an expansive collection of sculptures born from the inaugural art camp hosted by the NOVA Arts Group. Over three intensive days of collaborative creation, deep conversation, and tactile experimentation, a diverse group of artists worked side by side. The resulting sculptures embody deeply personal inquiries, yet they remain intrinsically bound together by the raw, elemental language of earth and fire. The exhibition’s title captures this essence, evoking the intangible, unseen field of memory, emotion, and life experience that radiates beyond physical form to surround both human beings and the objects they create.

“As a medium, terracotta holds a remarkably unique and poetic place in the chronicle of artistic expression. It balances beautifully on the edge of contradiction, being simultaneously fragile to the touch yet enduring across millennia. Working with clay offers an immediate, intimate connection; it faithfully records every fleeting gesture, creative decision, and moment of quiet reflection,” said Maneesh Bhaskar, artist.

The sculptures on display navigate an intricate web of contemporary themes, including identity, social belonging, labor, memory, gender, faith, power, and place. While some artists use the clay to give voice to lives burdened by marginalization and invisible societal weights, others dive into the complexities of physical embodiment, psychological transformation, and self-realization. Visitors will find familiar objects and everyday rituals cleverly reconfigured into rich sculptural metaphors, exposing the extraordinary depth hidden within ordinary life.
