The South Coast Railway (SCoR) observed the 12th International Day of Yoga with widespread participation at its headquarters in Visakhapatnam on Sunday (June 21, 2026).

The event saw a robust turnout of employees, officers, and members of the South Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organization (SCoRWWO). The proceedings were spearheaded by General Manager Sandeep Mathur and SCoRWWO President Charu Mathur.

The event brought together a diverse group of participants, including Principal Heads of Departments, trade union representatives, and Scouts & Guides cadets.

In his address to the gathering, Mr. Mathur noted that the initiative, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and adopted by the United Nations in 2014, has evolved into a global movement. Focusing on this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” he described the practice as far more than mere physical exercise.

“For the railway family, which operates round the clock in service of the nation, Yoga is a vital tool for maintaining physical fitness, mental peace, and emotional resilience,” Mr. Mathur said.

He emphasized that integrating such practices into the professional sphere ultimately contributes to safer and more efficient railway operations.

On the occasion, the General Manager recalled the Guinness World Record set in Visakhapatnam during the previous year’s celebrations in the presence of the Prime Minister. He expressed optimism that India would continue to lead as a global ambassador for wellness.

To encourage sustained practice, Mr. Mathur advocated for the adoption of the ‘5-Minute Y-Break Protocol’ — a series of simple, accessible exercises designed for employees to rejuvenate during working hours.
