The Forest Department has temporarily suspended entry of devotees to Velliangiri Hills from May 13, 2026, owing to the onset of southwest monsoon and forecast of heavy rainfall in the region.
The decision was taken following a review meeting chaired at the Coimbatore Collectorate on May 11 with officials from various departments in attendance. Acting on the advice of the District Forest Officer, the administration ordered the temporary suspension of pilgrimage activities to the hill shrine located under the Poondi section of the Boluvampatti forest range in the Coimbatore Forest Division.
The Department has also suspended eco-tourism activities at Barlikadu following continuous rainfall in The Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts. It had earlier announced that eco-tourism activities will last till the end of May, anticipating robust footfall during the summer vacation.
