The vice-chairman of Valliyoor panchayat union resigned after the Congress parted ways with the DMK and decided to back Vijay-led TVK.
Following his party’s decision to support the TVK in forming the new government, Venkatesh Dhanaraj of Congress, who is the vice-chairman of Valliyoor panchayat union, submitted on Thursday his resignation to Xavier Raja, chairman and son of former MP S. Gnanathiraviam.
“Since I got this position (vice-chairman of Valliyoor panchayat union) as Congress was an ally of the DMK, it will not be ethical to occupy the office even after our party parted ways with the DMK. Hence I resigned,” Mr. Venkatesh Dhanaraj said.
