From Classrooms to Boardrooms: How Student Clubs Shape Professional Growth at IPE
2026-04-30 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

The Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE), established in 1964, a premier B School in the country has consistently emphasized holistic student development alongside its core mandate of teaching, training, research, and consultancy. In alignment with this vision, IPE actively promotes a vibrant ecosystem of student clubs that serve as experiential learning platforms. These clubs play a crucial role in nurturing leadership, managerial competence, professional skills, and social responsibility amongst the students. Further to IPE’s recognition as a Centre of Excellence by the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Education, Government of India, student clubs at IPE significantly contribute to bridging academic learning with practical exposure, thereby strengthening students’ overall academic, professional, and personal growth. Student clubs are an integral part of campus life and play a pivotal role in shaping students into well-rounded professionals ready to excel in today’s competitive world. These clubs are designed not only to provide platforms for pursuing interests and hobbies by the students but also to strengthen essential skills that complement academic learning. With an objective of helping the students to pursue their hobbies and interests and to bring people together the student clubs are created at the Institute. As a club member one knows about one’s self, one’s interests and one’s goals. Students can unravel their strengths like multitasking, organization skills, team Building skills, leadership skills and service mindedness. Networking opportunities being the major benefit Club members develop bond among themselves, which help in growing their careers

1. Fostering Leadership and Teamwork

IPE’s student clubs encourage leadership, team building, and organizational skills. Members take on responsibilities such as planning events, coordinating activities, and managing club functions. Through these roles, students learn strategic planning, decision-making, and collaborative teamwork skills that are crucial in professional environments.

2. Practical Exposure Beyond Classroom Learning

Clubs such as the Marketing Club, Finance Club & HR Club provide hands-on exposure to real-world scenarios. For instance: The Marketing Club (TARANG) organizes marketing campaigns, guest speaker series, and competitive events that deepen understanding of contemporary marketing practices.

The Finance Club (NIVESH) conducts workshops, seminars, and finance-related events like Finbiz and Jobathon, preparing students for careers in finance through practical engagement. These experiences help translate theoretical knowledge into actionable insights, bridging the gap between academics and industry requirements.

The HR Club facilitates the students to comprehend practical aspects of HR decision making in various industries. HR club engages students with activities like role play, case study analysis, quiz competitions and many more activities which help students in understanding HR practices around the globe. The club activities include conducting HR Quizzes, Role plays and Business Games.

Operations Club’s (SHASTRA) activities include conducting talks on contemporary issues of operations management, creating awareness sessions on latest technologies connected with the subject area, and conducting subject quizzes to name a few.

3. Enhancing Soft Skills and Communication

Clubs like the Speakout Club, Quiz Club and Book Reading Club hone students’ communication, critical thinking, and general awareness. The Quiz Club, for example, organizes regular quiz competitions and the IPE Quiz League, stimulating intellectual curiosity and broadening students’ knowledge base. Book Reading Club is committed to tap the effective communication talent among the individuals, building up the confidence and grooming their talents in facing various interpersonal activities and competitions.

4. Encouraging Creativity and Cultural Appreciation

The Cultural Club (IKSHIT) offers students avenues to celebrate diversity, organize festivals, and participate in cultural carnivals. These activities encourage creative expression, cultural sensitivity, and an appreciation for tradition and diversity traits that enrich personal growth and social intelligence.

5. Building Professional and Social Networks

Participation in clubs enhances networking opportunities. Students interact with peers who share similar interests, connect with alumni, and engage with industry professionals through events. This network often becomes a valuable resource for mentoring, internships, and future career prospects. E-Cell IPE organizes a range of activities such as entrepreneurship awareness programs, start-up talks, ideation workshops, business plan competitions, panel discussions, and interactions with successful entrepreneurs and industry experts. These initiatives expose students to real-world entrepreneurial challenges and equip them with practical knowledge related to innovation, risk-taking, funding, and venture creation.

6. Promoting Social Responsibility and Community Engagement

Clubs such as the Social Club motivate students to contribute positively to society. Through initiatives like blood donation drives, through Daan Utsav fundraisers, anti-ragging and anti-narcotics campaigns, students learn the importance of empathy, civic responsibility, and humanitarian engagement.

7. Cultivating Passion & Personal Interests

From the Photography Club and Media Club that captures campus life and showcases artistic talents to other hobby-focused groups, students have the opportunity to pursue personal interests alongside their academic journey. These activities enhance creativity, provide stress-relief, and contribute to a more fulfilling college experience. The Media Club actively engages students in activities such as content writing, photography, videography, social media management, poster and creative design, event coverage, and digital promotions.

At the heart of student life at the Institute lies SANSKRITI, the institute’s annual flagship national student festival that stands as a dynamic celebration of management excellence, cultural creativity, and vibrant youth energy. This two-day fest brings together students from IPE and leading B-schools across India to compete, collaborate, and celebrate, making it one of the most anticipated events on the academic calendar.

Since its inception, SANSKRITI has attracted hundreds of participants from across the nation, fostering a truly national spirit of competition and collaboration. Students from prestigious institutions join IPE’s own learners to test their mettle, share ideas, and engage in spirited exchanges of knowledge and culture. Beyond competition and celebration, SANSKRITI reflects IPE’s broader commitment to holistic student development one that blends academic learning with practical experience, creative expression, and real-world skills. It reinforces the institute’s belief that education extends far beyond the classroom, empowering students to emerge as confident, capable, and culturally grounded leaders of tomorrow.
