Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, HRD Minister Nara Lokesh and BJP state president P.V.N. Madhav on Friday (June 26, 2026) reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug trafficking and preventing substance abuse, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with calls for stronger enforcement and public participation.

In a post on X, Mr. Naidu said the fight against drugs was ultimately a fight to protect the aspirations, health and future of young people. He said the State government was committed to relentlessly cracking down on drug trafficking and bringing offenders to justice, and to extending support to those battling addiction through rehabilitation and recovery programmes.

“The days when drugs were allowed to gain a foothold in our State are behind us. Andhra Pradesh stands for zero tolerance towards drug trafficking, hope for those seeking recovery, and a safer future for every family,” the Chief Minister said, using the campaign slogan #DrugsOdhuBro.

Echoing the Chief Minister’s message, HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, in a message on X, said the Andhra Pradesh government remained firmly committed to completely eradicating the drug menace through coordinated enforcement and community participation. He said the government was conducting aggressive law enforcement operations, strengthening border and transit surveillance, and implementing rehabilitation programmes to dismantle drug networks and help vulnerable communities access sustainable and lawful livelihoods.

Mr. Lokesh appealed to citizens, educational institutions and civil society organisations to actively take part in building a safe, healthy and drug-free Andhra Pradesh.

In a post on X, BJP Andhra Pradesh president P.V.N. Madhav highlighted the Union government’s efforts to curb narcotics smuggling through coastal and maritime routes. He said surveillance along the coastline had been intensified and every container at ports was being subjected to thorough scanning to prevent the transportation of narcotics.

Using the hashtag #DrugsFreeBharat, Mr. Madhav said the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, was taking stringent measures to curb drug smuggling through enhanced coastal security and stricter monitoring of ports.

The statements were issued as governments and organisations across the world observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, renewing efforts to combat drug abuse, trafficking and organised crime, and to promote prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
