The Delhi Assembly received another threatening email on Monday (April 13, 2026), prompting Speaker Vijender Gupta to take cognisance of a series of such messages and write to Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, seeking a speedy investigation and enhanced security arrangements.

Monday’s (April 13, 2026) email was the fifth such threat received by the Assembly, including those addressed to the Speaker. Three threatening emails were received consecutively during the Budget session from March 23 to 25, all of which were later found to be hoaxes after police checks. The latest threat comes days after a 37-year-old man forcefully drove into the Assembly premises, leading to a law and order scare.

In his letter to the Police Commissioner on Monday, the Speaker said threatening emails had been repeatedly sent over the past few weeks to the Assembly’s official email address as well as his personal email from various accounts, claiming that bombs had been planted on the premises.

“Today also, a threatening email was received at 11.12 a.m. on the official email ID from ‘gayathrishabaz@hotmail.com’,” Mr. Gupta said in the letter, adding that the sender warned of “15 RDX blasts and the use of cyanide gas” at the Assembly premises within three hours.

“I request you to kindly treat this matter with utmost urgency and trace the source of these emails so that the perpetrators can be brought to justice,” Mr. Gupta said.

“Immediate steps should be taken to strengthen security in and around the Assembly premises to prevent any untoward incident,” he added.

Earlier, the Assembly had received threatening emails from Khalistan-supporting groups.

The repeated threat emails not only hamper the Assembly’s smooth functioning but also instil fear among staff, the Speaker said. “The Delhi Legislative Assembly is a very important democratic institution, and any threat to it is a very serious matter as it also undermines the democratic system,” he added.
