The coastal town, after being baked for several weeks, experienced summer showers on Wednesday evening.
The thunder showers that started at 3.15 p.m. drenched the town till 4 p.m. to bring down the heat considerably.
As strong gale lashed the town for a while, it triggered power cuts in a few places and trees were uprooted in some parts of the town. Traffic on the Thoothukudi – Madaththur Road was affected after the heavy winds uprooted a neem tree.
