The temporary bus stand set up near Sorathur Four Road in Thuraiyur began functioning on Wednesday, following the shifting of operations from the existing Anna Bus Stand.
The relocation was carried out to facilitate the redevelopment of the old bus stand from where both town buses and long-distance services had been operating. It had been proposed to renovate the facility at an estimated cost of ₹11.25 crore with modernisation of bus bays, installation of seating benches, construction of sanitary complexes, improvement of shops, roofing, and other passenger amenities.
The relocation of bus operations was initially planned in March but was postponed due to public examinations.
Basic amenities have been arranged at the temporary bus stand for passengers.
As per the traffic diversion, buses plying from Tiruchi, Musiri, and Namakkal will reach the temporary facility via Anna Bus Stand and Palakkarai. Services bound for Attur, Thammampatti, and Salem will operate via Musiri roundabout, Anna Bus Stand and Palakkarai.
Similarly, buses heading towards Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Chennai will proceed via the Musiri roundabout, Anna Bus Stand, Palakkarai, and Perumal Malai Adivaram from the temporary facility to reach their destinations.
