The Tiruppur district administration is preparing the disaster response machinery to address possible impacts of the Southwest Monsoon.
District Collector Manish Narnaware on Saturday (May 9) chaired a meeting of senior officials of different departments for discussing precautionary measures. The focus was establishing 52 relief camps to house people from areas prone to inundation; supply of drinking water and electricity; toilets; and safeguarding public health.
The emphasis of the meeting was on coordinated action by Revenue Department, Rural Development Department, Public Works Department, Electricity Department, Highways Department, Health Department, Cooperative Department, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Animal Husbandry Department, Forest Department, Fire and Rescue Department, and Police Department.
The levels in Thirumoorthy and Amaravathy dams will be closely monitored and flood warnings issued in time. The strength of buildings identified for relief camps will be ascertained beforehand. Also, encroachments close to waterbodies will be removed and the sturdiness of embankment of rivers, lakes and tanks will be determined and rectified beforehand by the Rural Development Department and Water Resources Department.
