Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday held a series of high-level meetings in Singapore aimed at strengthening cooperation in advanced technology, higher education, urban governance, infrastructure development and international connectivity.
A key highlight of the visit was Mr. Naidu’s meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the latter’s official residence. During the 30-minute discussion, the Chief Minister sought Singapore’s support in building a semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh and requested collaboration in capacity building, research and innovation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and quantum technologies.
Mr. Naidu emphasised Andhra Pradesh’s vision of transforming Amaravati into a globally competitive capital city and sought Singapore’s expertise in urban governance, smart city planning and sustainable infrastructure development. “Amaravati is being developed as one of India’s most livable cities with world-class infrastructure, educational institutions and innovation-driven growth,” he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s initiatives in natural farming and invited Singapore to explore the import of horticulture and aquaculture products from the State. He noted that certification and traceability systems are being developed to ensure quality standards for naturally grown produce.
Wong seeks Amaravati details
Discussions also focused on leveraging opportunities arising from Andhra Pradesh’s expanding network of ports, airports and logistics infrastructure to enhance trade and investment flows. Prime Minister Wong expressed interest in the progress of Amaravati and sought details regarding the capital city’s infrastructure projects, educational ecosystem and long-term development plans.
The two leaders also exchanged views on public healthcare, affordable housing, childcare policies, population management and the global challenge of declining birth rates.
Singapore varsity campus
Earlier in the day, Mr. Naidu met senior leadership of the National University of Singapore and proposed the establishment of an international campus in Andhra Pradesh. He invited the university to partner with the State in developing a Centre of Excellence under the proposed Quantum Valley initiative in Amaravati and sought collaboration in research, innovation and policy development.
Air connectivity
The Chief Minister also held discussions with Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on strengthening strategic partnerships and improving air connectivity between Singapore and Andhra Pradesh. He showcased the State’s strengths in manufacturing, services, skilled workforce, green energy, green hydrogen and logistics infrastructure, while highlighting the emergence of Visakhapatnam as a data-centre hub and Amaravati as a future technology and innovation destination.
The meetings underscored Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to attracting global investment, promoting cutting-edge technologies and building long-term international partnerships for sustainable economic growth.
