One person has been arrested in Bijnor district in connection with alleged anti-national activities, police said on Thursday (April 16, 2026).
Circle Officer (CO) Anjani Kumar Chaturvedi told the local media that Sameer was apprehended in Najibabad for allegedly maintaining connections with individuals located in Saudi Arabia and South Africa, who were attempting to recruit young people in India for activities related to terrorism. According to the police, the accused Sameer was communicating with Aqib, who resides in Saudi Arabia, and Majul, who is based in South Africa, via Instagram.
They were eyeing to motivating youths into establishing a terror network in India, engaging in anti-national activities and sabotaging railway infrastructure. During the interrogation, Sameer confessed that Aqib had been inciting him towards such actions, as said by the police.
Two additional suspects, Uvaid and Jalal, had been detained previously in connection with the case. The police further said that lookout notices have been issued for Aqib and Majul.
