In Kodagu, the Tourism Department has imposed restrictions on infrastructure and occupancy. Homestays can have a minimum of one and a maximum of six guest rooms with not more than 12 beds in total.

Dormitory-style accommodation and bunker beds are prohibited, and no more than 12 adults can stay at a homestay at any given time. Officials, in a press release, clarified that rented, leased or sub-leased properties cannot be registered as homestays and that the owners of the property must reside on the premises.
