Several Gandhians and Congress members on Thursday took out a march from Vedaranyam to Agasthiyampalli re-enacting the historic Salt Satyagraha led by freedom fighter C. Rajagopalachari on April 30, 1930.
The event was organised to mark the 96th anniversary of the Salt Satyagraha when Rajaji took out a march from Tiruchi to Agasthiyamapalli near Vedaranyam to break the salt law imposed by the British that stifled salt collection and trade by Indians to benefit the colonial rulers.
