The Department of Civil Supplies has directed beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana to complete the mandatory registration under the newly-introduced Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) system.
The CBDC system, introduced in the Union Territory with effect from February 26 this year, replaces the Direct Benefit Transfer - Cash model followed earlier for distribution of provisions to ration card holders. Under the new scheme, beneficiaries will be issued digital currency (e-wallet) valued for three months from the date of issuance.
Beneficiaries are entitled to use the e-wallet for purchasing ration (rice) within the validity period. To avail the CBDC, completion of e-KYC registration was mandatory, an official release here said.
“Beneficiaries who have already updated their e-KYC are not required to do it again. Those who have not completed their e-KYC are requested to visit the nearest Common Service Centre along with their Aadhaar and Ration cards. The e-KYC process will be completed free of cost. Only beneficiaries who complete e-KYC will be eligible to receive the digital currency. The beneficiaries are also advised to utilise the special camps held in each constituency from this month onwards,” the release said.
