The Sanketi Sangeetha Sabha at Hosahalli-Matthur, near Shivamogga, is celebrating its silver jubilee with a five-day music festival beginning May 27. The organisation, founded in 2000, has nurtured Carnatic music in the region.
Addressing a press conference in Shivamogga on May 25, Sabha president H.K. Venkataram said the organisation has conducted numerous music programmes and trained hundreds of students in Carnatic music. The silver jubilee festival will bring together renowned musicians from across Karnataka and beyond, all performing at Gamaka Bhavan in Hosahalli.
The festival will be inaugurated by MLC Dhananjay Sarji in the presence of Kannada and Culture Department Joint Director Ashok N. Chalavadi, and other dignitaries.
The highlight of the festival will be a continuous 24-hour music programme, beginning at 6 p.m. on May 30 and concluding at 6 p.m. on May 31. “The music will go on without a break for 24 hours. We have invited vocalists and instrumentalists to perform through the night, and into the next evening,” said Sabha secretary H.S. Venkatesh.
The festival will conclude on May 31 with a valedictory function, during which the organisers will felicitate five loyal music enthusiasts who have been devoted members of the Sabha’s audience over the years — a fitting tribute to the listeners who have kept the spirit of Carnatic music alive in the community.
