With the district reeling under an intense heatwave and high humidity, and temperatures hovering between 39°C and 40°C, green shade nets are being installed at major traffic junctions in the city to provide temporary relief to motorists waiting at signals.

The district has been experiencing severe heat since February, with the mercury touching 40.6°C in April. With the average temperature consistently crossing 39°C, heat-related discomfort has intensified. The heatwave conditions, particularly between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., have also affected vehicular movement and caused considerable inconvenience to commuters.
