Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Green Brigade State president Kodihalli Chandrashekar has called for a bandh at K.R. Market on Tuesday, arguing that traders are being prevented from taking vehicles carrying fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other produce into the market.
The association will be submitting a memorandum to GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao on Tuesday in this regard.
The association said traders are being asked to leave their vehicles outside the market and carry their goods for up to 500 metres to reach the wholesale trading area. “This has increased transport costs, caused delays and resulted in losses for farmers,” Mr. Chandrashekar said. He added that vehicles hired to transport produce are left waiting for hours, increasing expenses.
He added that barricades placed on roads leading to the market have disrupted the movement of goods and demanded direct access for vehicles carrying produce. He said the restrictions could also challenge the entry of ambulances and fire engines into the market during emergencies.
