The curriculum on Computational Thinking & Artificial Intelligence was released on April 1, 2026, by Dharmendra Pradhan, Education Minister, Union Government, for CBSE students between Classes 3–8. The inclusion of this curriculum will equip students with skills such as logical reasoning, problem solving, and identification of patterns.

In addition, they will be aware of how artificial intelligence is applied in real-life situations. Indeed, this is a highly appreciated and apt initiative to equip learners for the future.
One of the best features of this curriculum is its approach.
Rather than beginning with technological tools or artificial intelligence terminologies, the focus here will be laid on computational thinking, which involves logical reasoning. It is one of the basic skills that need to be taught, as they help in overall learning. In higher classes, students will gradually be exposed to artificial intelligence concepts through age-appropriate teaching.
Additionally, the curriculum promotes learning beyond a single discipline. The concept of Computational Thinking can be applied in multiple classes, including those teaching
Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and even foreign languages. This enables students to create connections between various disciplines and to realise that problem-solving skills are applicable to everything. It also adds meaning to the process of acquiring knowledge by making it more relevant to life. An important element of the above-mentioned curriculum is related to ethical considerations. With the increasing use of technologies, it becomes necessary to know such terms as fairness, bias, and responsibility associated with technologies.
The success of the initiative relies heavily on cooperation between various stakeholders involved in the educational process. The teacher is the one who is going to implement the new curriculum. A lot of teachers would require time to understand new terms like computational thinking and AI. Moreover, teachers will have to adapt themselves and learn about the latest technologies and the latest ways of teaching.
The initial stages can be daunting for them because they have many tasks to do. But if proper training and assistance are provided to them, then they will be able to develop confidence. Ultimately, their task will be not only to teach students but also to encourage them to think critically.
The students are perfectly placed to benefit from this curriculum.
They are always curious and comfortable with technology. They learn things very fast and try out new ideas readily. With the help of teachers, they will be able to learn the concepts of AI and make use of it efficiently and ethically. The schools should be able to develop an atmosphere whereby both students and teachers will be comfortable, in the sense that there will be enough time for training for teachers, along with motivation and provision of necessary resources for the learning process. Besides this, schools should provide all infrastructure needed, including computers, internet, and software, which would be necessary for students to benefit from the curriculum offered.
In doing this, the school curriculum should be balanced with other academic activities to an extent that it does not overwhelm teachers and learners. Apart from providing the curriculum to schools, CBSE has continuous obligations that include training and supporting teachers in all schools.
Training programs and teaching resources may be provided by CBSE, while feedback from schools would help CBSE identify areas requiring improvement. With joint effort from teachers, students, schools, and CBSE, this program is going to transform classrooms.
