Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Chennai Customs foiled two separate attempts to smuggle hydroponic ganja through Chennai’s Anna International Airport, leading to the arrest of three persons in connection with the cases.
In the first incident on April 29, customs officials intercepted an Indian passenger who arrived from Bangkok on a Thai Airways flight. Upon examination of his checked-in baggage, officers recovered three airtight packets concealed inside branded cosmetic products. The packets contained 868 grams of green flowering or fruiting tops suspected to be hydroponic ganja.
