Two women were killed and around 20 others injured after a private bus carrying devotees overturned near Gondal town in Gujarat’s Rajkot district early on Monday (May 25, 2026), police said.
The accident occurred near Vorakotda village in Gondal taluka at around 4.30 a.m. when the driver attempted to reverse the bus on a narrow single-lane road to allow an oncoming truck to pass.
According to police, the bus was carrying around 60 devotees and had left Gondal on Sunday (May 24) morning for visits to religious sites, including Bagdana. The accident took place while the group was returning.
They said the bus driver lost control while reversing, causing the bus to overturn into a roadside field below the elevated road. “The road is narrow, and two vehicles cannot cross simultaneously. So, the bus driver reversed to give way to the truck but misjudged the distance, causing the vehicle to overturn into the field,” police said.
Two women seated near a window sustained fatal head injuries after the bus fell into the rocky field. They were identified as Shantaben Makwana and her daughter-in-law Manjuben Makwana, both residents of Gondal.

Nearly 20 passengers sustained minor injuries, while the remaining occupants escaped unhurt, police said.
Further investigation is underway, and the police said action against the driver would be decided after the inquiry is completed.
