An intensive pulse polio immunisation camp was inaugurated at the Anganwadi centre in Khandal Mukkonam in Udhagamandalam in The Nilgiris on Sunday (June 28, 2026).

In a press release, the district administration said the camps were held at the government and private hospitals, primary health centres, health sub-centres and anganwadi centres.

Special vaccination centres have also been established at district and State border checkposts, tribal habitations, and migrant-population settlements. Through 821 centres, oral polio drops will be administered to 48,140 children below five years of age, the release added.

A total of 3,284 personnel, including staff from the Health and other departments, volunteers, and members of Rotary clubs, have been deployed for the campaign, with four personnel assigned to each camp.

In addition, mobile vaccination teams will administer the vaccination to children at bus stands, railway stations, temples and other public places. Children who missed their vaccination will be visited at their homes over the following two days, and the drops will be administered by field staff, the release stated.

The district Collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru appealed to the parents to get their children immunised against polio, stating that the oral vaccine supplied by the government is of high quality, completely safe and approved by the World Health Organization. The Collector also inspected pulse polio vaccination camps.
