Trump extends ceasefire until Iranian proposal is submitted; talks are over

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) that the United States was indefinitely extending the Iran ceasefire – a day before it was to expire – as a new round of peace talks was on hold. The announcement appeared to ease fears that the fighting, which had shaken energy markets and the global economy, would promptly resume.

After Pahalgam massacre, security forces took the terror fight back to Kashmir’s jungles

After the terror attack in Pahalgam last year, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security forces returned to the jungles. From training personnel in jungle warfare to establishing temporary operating bases in the upper reaches at altitudes up to 7,000 feet, the J&K police and Central security forces reoriented their approach to track down terrorist modules, a senior government official told The Hindu.

Iran to restart domestic flights; charts phased airspace reopening 

Contingent on progress in U.S.-Iran diplomatic talks, Iran’s aviation safety regulator has outlined a phased reopening of its airspace after the resumption of domestic flight operations from Wednesday. Iranian government sources told The Hindu that they plan to first reallow overflight operations that will bring a huge respite to all international airlines connecting Europe with Asia, including Indian carriers.

Trinamool, BJP make final appeals as campaigning ends for first phase of polls in West Bengal

Campaigning for the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections ended on Tuesday. Polling will be held on 152 seats across 16 districts and about 3.60 crore voters will determine the fate of 1,452 candidates. The high-intensity poll campaign for the April 23 Assembly election in Tamil Nadu ended at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and the mandatory “silent period” came into effect 48 hours ahead of the poll date. Political parties and candidates are barred from holding meetings, processions or issuing campaign-related advertisements during the silent period, an official said.
