The Hindu Bureau · 2026-06-28 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

Minister of Health Y. Satya Kumar Yadav on Sunday (June 28, 2026) conducted a meeting to review the seasonal disease control measures with the District Collectors, District Medical and Health Officers, and other senior officials from the North Andhra districts via video conference from the Visakhapatnam Collectorate.

During the meeting, Mr. Satya Kumar directed the officials to intensify preventive measures against seasonal diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya and viral fevers. He instructed district administrations to strengthen surveillance systems, identify fever cases at an early stage and ensure prompt medical treatment to prevent outbreaks.

Directing the field-level officials to be on alert, the Minister asked the health workers to conduct continuous active surveillance in every village and urban ward, identify people suffering from fever at the earliest, carry out necessary diagnostic tests and provide immediate treatment. He further asked the officials to identify areas that are vulnerable to the seasonal diseases and implement focused intervention plans.

“Speed up Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS), active disease detection, mass fever surveys, fogging operations and other mosquito control measures in vulnerable areas to minimise the spread of vector-borne diseases,” he asked.

The Minister stressed the need for intensified disease control measures in Tribal Welfare Residential Schools, Social Welfare Hostels, Gurukul Educational Institutions.

Mr. Satya Kumar also urged the officials to create awareness about sanitation and hygiene. He instructed village and ward secretariats, local bodies and gram panchayats to work in coordination to ensure that stagnant water is eliminated from residential areas, thereby reducing mosquito breeding. He also stressed the need to closely monitor drinking water quality and implement all necessary preventive measures to curb the spread of communicable diseases.

All Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and district hospitals should remain fully prepared by maintaining adequate stocks of essential medicines, diagnostic kits, rapid diagnostic test kits, intravenous (IV) fluids and platelets required for the treatment of severe cases, he ordered, directing the authorities to review the situation on a daily basis and maintaining continuous surveillance to detect any rise in infections.
