People of the Halumatha community and followers of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah staged protests in the cities of Yadgir and Raichur and demanded the Congress high command not to allow him to resign.
The protesters shouted slogans against the Congress high command, which, according to them, has rendered injustice to a backward class leader and pro-people Chief Minister who successfully completed eight years in office (over two terms).
In Yadgir, the middle of the protest, an emotional follower suddenly claimed that he will consume poison. But the other protesters swiftly snatched it away from his hands and threw it afar.
Mr. Siddaramaiah has completed three years as Chief Minister in his second term. However, without a valid reason, the party high command has forced him to tender resignation. The party high command’s decision is an attempt to weaken the backward community leader.
The Kurubas will teach the Congress a lesson in the coming elections, they said.
