The CB-CID on Friday arrested S. Krishnakumari, mother of prime accused Surjith, in connection with the caste killing of techie Kavin Selvaganesh, a Scheduled Caste youth, at KTC Nagar in Tiruneveli.

Kavin, an IT employee, who hailed from Arumugamangalam in Thoohukudi district was brutally killed on July 27, 2025 allegedly by S. Surjith, the brother of the girl he loved. The accused belonged to the Most Backward Caste.

Earlier, Surjith, his father Saravanan and their relative Jeyapaul had been arrested in connection with the case. The murder had triggered widespread condemnation from political parties and human rights activists, who demanded swift action and fair investigation.

Both Saravanan and Krishnakumari were Sub-Inspectors of Police.

In November 2025, The Special Court for SC/ST Cases in Tirunelveli ordered the CB-CID police, the investigators of the case, to arrest Krishnakumari, after examining the process of investigation.

Accordingly she was arrested and was produced before Special Court for SC/ST Cases in Tirunelveli on Friday and remanded in judicial custody.
